Perhaps you could try a more advanced CAPTCHA (reCAPTCHA).
Google owns reCAPTCHA, it's pretty reliable, the above link is a MOD for SMF, you could try that.
Also, allowing email confirmation (if there is) could also be of help.
EDIT: Oops, it seems it's only compatible with SMF 1.1.2 and above, the same is for advanced captcha.
I would consider updating the version as soon as possible.

I totally agree - this is getting rather absurd. I've been trying to keep up with these, but... wow. Don't you worry, though, I'll be contacting the person that runs the forums. I just administrate!

Hi, I'm the site administrator.
Amusingly enough, I've had the mod installed the entire time, and totally forgot to activate it. It is now up. Let's see how that does.
I really wanted to get Akismet going, as that would have worked exceptionally well, but it's being uncooperative.
And the forums are actually 1.1.11, the latest stable edition of SMF, so we're in the clear. I've been debating whether upgrading to 2.0 RC3 is worthwhile, but I dislike the idea of running beta software, so for the time being...Posted 1 year ago #
